Shirley has always loved animals and wished she could do more to help those in need. The plight of dogs in Thailand, especially after the flood, had her considering adopting a dog from that part of the world. She did take photos of dogs at the humane society in Ottawa for their web-pages to show available dogs. Both Tika and Sam were adopted from the humane society and if it were completely up to her, Shirley would have adopted more.
